Notice of Bug Introduced in JMARS 5.6.3 release
We have recently become aware of a bug we accidentally introduced
starting in JMARS version 5.6.3 which was released on November 18,
2025 related to shapefiles.
We have recently become aware of a bug we accidentally introduced starting in JMARS version 5.6.3 which was released on November 18, 2025. This bug caused some shape layers added via the Add Layer interface to be incorrectly loaded as ographic data instead of ocentric data. On Mars, this can make a difference of up to 0.2 degrees latitude for data around 45 degrees north or south. If you were working with JMARS hosted shape layers during this time, and were doing work that would be impacted by a 0.2 degree latitude shift, please reach out to us at help@jmars.asu.edu and we can help assess whether you were impacted by this issue, and what, if anything, needs to be done to correct it. This bug has been addressed in JMARS version 5.6.5 which was released on February 28, 2026. Please accept our apologies for any impact or inconvenience this has caused.
