Open Source Information
JMARS (Java Mission-planning and Analysis for Remote Sensing) is a Java-based geospatial information system developed by the Mars Space Flight Facility at Arizona State University. This software is used for mission planning and scientific data analysis by several NASA missions, including Mars Odyssey, Mars Global Surveyor, Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, and the up-coming Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. The Mars Space Flight Facility is pleased to announce that JMARS has been released as an Open Source project, under the GPL license.
JMARS source can be downloaded via Subversion at http://oss.mars.asu.edu/svn/jmars/
JMARS can simultaneously display multiple datasets (such as maps, image footprints, numerical data products, etc) collected by instruments on several current and past NASA missions, such as:
2001 Mars Odyssey
Thermal Emission Imaging System (THEMIS) • VIS (18m & 36m resolution) Coverage • IR (Day & Night) Coverage
Mars Global Surveyor
Thermal Emission Spectrometer (TES) • Thermal Inertia Map • Albedo Map • Mineral Maps Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) • Wide-Angle Camera Map Mars Orbital Laser Altimeter (MOLA) • Global Topography Maps (Shaded and Colorized)
Viking 1 & 2 Orbiters
Infrared Themal Mapper (IRTM) • Thermal Inertia Map • Albedo Map New datasets are constantly being added to JMARS from all of these missions and instruments as new data is collected and existing data undergoes further processing and analysis.
